Hoy me encontré con esta cita de mi amigo Walt Whitman en su Preface to Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul; and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body…

Esto es lo que has de hacer: amar la Tierra y el sol y los animales, despreciar las riquezas, dar limosna a todo aquel que pida, defender la estupidez y la locura, dedicar sus ingresos y labor a los demás, odiar a los tiranos, discutir sin involucrar a Dios, tener paciencia e indulgencia hacia la gente, quitarse el sombrero ante hombre o el número de hombres conocidos y desconocidos, ir libremente con personas sin educación y con los jóvenes y con las madres de familia, leer estas palabras al aire libre cada temporada de cada año de su vida, volver a examinar todo lo que te han dicho en la escuela o en la iglesia o en cualquier libro, descartar cualquiera fuera lo que insulte tu propia alma; y tu más profundo interior será un gran poema y tendrá la más rica fluidez, no sólo en sus palabras sino también en las líneas silenciosas de sus labios y rostro y entre las pestañas de tus ojos y en cada movimiento y gracia de tu cuerpo...
